As the demands on college students grow, so does the stress they feel. One of the ways they are coping with it is through memes.

According to an ABC News article, stress levels in college students are rising, “Not surprisingly, the nation’s top schools are reporting that there’s an increase in students needing and accessing mental health services.” Jarilyn Ross, president and CEO of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America said.

While college students strive to earn good grades and also create a life independent of their parents, there will be mishaps. And not just laundry mishaps. What better way to deal with these trials than through relatable everyday #CollegeHumor.

In high school, everyone is young dumb and broke, but they still have their parents buying their favorite groceries.

The harsh reality is that your favorite snacks cost a lot.

Above is a more diversified range of college memes that most everyone can relate to.

Graduating classes post pictures by the minute about the new friends they have made — #besties. Not to mention the millions of snapchats depicting the wild party life — #rager.

This isn’t the full story, college is not all glitz and glam. People know this. When the fake side of college becomes too overwhelming, it is nice to escape into the part of the internet that depicts the real — #relatable side of college.

The internet, and platforms like Twitter have given students the tools to document the best, worst, and funniest of college for better or for worse.

Simply search “College Student” on Twitter and a plethora of content will come through mocking the common college student

College Student, the Twitter account claims to be the original college student twitter account, and has gained 2 million followers since 2012 when they joined the Twitter community.

What makes College Student so enticing is the timing of their tweets. For example, the tweet below came in the middle of the semester when midterms are gearing up to haunt students for endless nights. The account has others that relate current events to the realities that college students face.

Perhaps, it is safe to say, that College Student, along with many other meme accounts, hopes to give their followers a quick chuckle that will lighten up their nightly workload. Based off of the amount of likes and retweets many of the tweets have, they are successful at doing so.
